GeoVille starts Service Production in South-Eastern Madagascar for UN-IFAD and ESA

GeoVille has been awarded with an ESA Service Trial, which will provide EO derived land cover and land cover change maps with a focus on rice and rainfed crops for an area of more than 16,500 km² in south-east Madagascar. The service is directly driven by the requirements of UN-IFAD, supported IFAD projects and the Malagasy Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries as a local stakeholder.

As part of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security Services Element, the Global Monitoring for Food Security project of ESA aims to provide Earth Observation based services in order to assist stakeholders, nations and international organizations to better implement their policies towards sustainable development.

GeoVille develops Soil Moisture derived Index products based on radar satellite (ERS, ASAR) data and provides related GIS services to the Early Warning Service of the GMFS Stage III project.

LISA User Workshop Gumpenstein

From April 20th-22nd the LISA user group, consisting of thematic experts from all provinces, several federal agencies and the European Topic Center, met for an intensive 2 day workshop. On the first day, the users were updated on the results of the first production, the verification and good performance of the LISA prototypes by the Scientific / Technical Board and the functionality of LISA GeoPortal. This was followed by a discussion of the identified issues of the current LISA datamodel specifications. On the second day, the thematic working groups engaged in constructive sessions to discuss the problem areas and reached a consensus on the further adaptions. ETC-LUSI director Andreas Littkopf praised the leading role of Austria in the standardization and implementation of a national land monitoring system and emphasized to fulfil requirements at EU level. LISA production started

Since establishment of the user specified data catolgue, design of the data model, technical verification by the scientific committee and delivery of the relevant geodata by the province and the state departments, the production of the first LISA prototypes has started on schedule in January 2010. LiSA (Land Information System Austria) - 2nd User Meeting

More than 30 representatives from public organisations - representing the future user group of LiSA - participated in the 2nd User Meeting in Salzburg. The 2 days meeting served to discuss LiSA class definitions, catalog specification and the object oriented data model.
LiSA is financed under the Austrian Space Application Programme and coordinated by GeoVille.

WorldBank projects featured in economy news magazine “Wirtschaftblatt”

One of the more recent customers of GeoVille Group is the Wolrd Bank. In house experts have developed dedicated, satellite derived geographic information products and successfully executed a number of natural risk and climate change adaption studies in Africa for this customer. The Austrian economy news magazine “Wirtschaftsblatt” has now covered these studies in a news article and reports about the companies close breakthrough for large scale roll-out in Africa.

GeoVille and Austrian key stakeholders initiate Land Information System Austria (LISA)

In order to overcome the shortcomings of existing LC/LU data sets for regional, national as well as European management and reporting requirements, the project Land Information System Austria (LISA) was initated by GeoVille together with other Austrian stakeholders. The objective of LISA is to achieve a consensus on a new Austrian land information and monitoring system and demonstrate its benefits offering improved spatial and thematic content. The project is funded by the Austrian Space Application Program (ASAP), and was successfully kicked off on June 15th in Vienna at the Austrian Institute of Technology.

With Regiomap Austria, GeoVille provides a new, nationwide land use map for the telecom industry

With its in-house developed processing chain RegioCover©, GeoVille now serves a nationwide digital land use map, termed Regiomap Austria, with an unsurpassed price-quality ratio. Regiomap Austria was produced using an object oriented image analysis and interpretation approach based on 2007-2009 15m TERRA ASTER satellite data. The resulting digital land use map has 25 classes with a minimum mapping unit of 0.25ha.The thematic accuracy is >95% and the geometric location accuracy is specified with ±1 pixel size. GeoVille Environmental Services signed a framework contract with the European Environment Agency (EEA) for the provision of geographic data. The framework agreement has a duration of 4 years and includes the provision of data licenses to EEA as well as the provision of data manipulation services.

GeoVille takes its responsibility for the environment serious and has offset its 2008 emissions by investing in a Verified Emission Reductions (VER’s) windpark project in Turkey. To reduce emissions at the source most GeoVille employees use public transport to commute to work.

Informing Austrian stakeholders about GMES and EO applications

At this years GeoConvent, Austria’s prime geoinformation event for the industry and governmental sector, Dr.Hoffmann, CEO of GeoVille Group and invited keynote speaker, provided an overview of the current GMES status to Austrian stakeholders. GeoVille also featured a tradeshow booth promoting NEXTmap and TerraSAR-X products as well as workshop about the applications of high resolution satellite products for the Engineering industry. The event was well visited by high ranking politicians and industry leaders.
